Detective Game

ROLE

Sound Designer

DESCRIPTION

I was contracted by Jake Morgenstern for sound design work on his game. Jake's game is centered around a detective theme and take's inspirations from games like The Rise of the Golden Idol. Most of the work I did was with sound effects but I also did some Technology Lab ambience and a pretty complex dialogue system as well.

How it came together:

Working with Jake in FMOD we made a dialogue sound effects system that takes major inspiration from how Animal Crossing does theirs. Jake wanted to make it sound almost like a real language in order to do that, we had to have a sound for vowels and sounds for consonants. So, as dialogue is being typed out the sound effect that corresponds to whatever letter that is being typed then plays giving the system an almost alien sound.  Other than that we also wanted the dialogue to sound human but uncanny and I think it covers that pretty well.

How it came together:

Lab Ambience

This was a very complex Ambience to make and it took a combination of a lot of different layers in FMOD.  In the FMOD project their is 4 separate audio tracks; room tone/noise, Computer Beeps and Boops, Neighbors talking, and Neighbor footsteps. The last three I mention are in different scatterer instruments that randomly play their corresponding sounds in specified but also random time intervals.
